PMS : (Pre-menopausal symptoms)

When we say a man is a bread-winner of the family, woman is a home-maker. And if she is working, then the pressure is all the more as she has to maintain the balance between her professional requirements and family needs. She undergoes tremendous stress while dealing with all these complexities of life which are testing her skills all the time. Which many times results in complications in pre-menopausal period. Many women are unaware of this fact so they need to be counseled extensively. In these type of counseling sessions we make these women aware of PMS syndrome and help them learn how to deal with physical and hormonal changes and emotional ups and downs during this period.

Menopause is a normal, physiological transition when a woman stops producing eggs and ovarian function diminishes, sometimes causing bothersome symptoms such as hot flashes or vaginal dryness, migraine headaches, insomnia, and even increase in heart palpitations can be seen during this period.

"The fluctuating hormone levels that most women experience during perimenopause and during menopause do not, in and of themselves, cause the distressing emotional and psychological symptoms (such as anger and depression) that so many women suffer with in PMS and at midlife. In other words, it is not the only hormone levels that are creating the entire problem; rather, it is the particular combination of a womanís hormone levels and her preexisting brain chemistry along with her life situation that results in her symptoms."

Mood swings and forgetfulness appear to be two of the most frustrating symptoms for most women. Obviously, mood swings and the increase in dark, negative moods, is hormonally influenced. Forgetfulness or, we call it "Canít remember Squat" or CRS syndrome is a normal symptom that many women experience as our hormones change and our brains rewire. Sometimes memory problems during midlife can also be due to so many external demands on our limited time.

Although identifying all of these symptoms can certainly be overwhelming and sometimes depressing, these are natural and normal occurrences during midlife. In my practice as a psychotherapist, one of the first issues I address with my clients is that these symptoms are normal. I emphasize that they are not going crazy when their memory fades or that they are to blame for their mood swings.

After 40ís a woman needs more concern and understanding from her closed ones. As she is always on toes for her family, she deserve this emotional support and care.
